Mad Max – Hands ON (DEMO) Review
Let’s start with the obvious. The game is stunning. Max looks nothing like Tom Hardy and I appreciate Avalanche studios keeping the movie reboot separate from the game will run at 1080p on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 & the game will no finite limits to the map… in other words, there is no ‘one side’,” “You can continue driving into The Big Nothing until you get bored or killed.” My time with the demo began with hopping into Max’s car and heading to any enemy camp. The goal was to take it over and make it a home for your followers. The controls were easy to pick up. Driving Max’s indestructible car was sick. The car was on fire at one point and still going strong. The melee aspect was OK. It was a lot of button-mashing, but if you timed your parries right you broke your enemy’s bones, which is oddly satisfying. I’m not too sure if you can combo and get even cooler finishing moves, but if you press the square button enough times things will happen. I should add there are multiple ways to take on a mission. If you wanted to take on a more stealth approach and infiltrate on foot your can or you can be incredibly destructive and that’s ok too. I decided on attempting a little bit of both. I eventually found a small entrance to sneak my way through the camp. Six enemies quickly rushed me, but I used my gun to take out a few baddies and my fists to take down the rest. Again, a lot of button mashing and that’s not always satisfying for some gamers. Overall, the Mad Max game from Avalanche Studios was okay. It didn’t make me want to immediately pick up the game on Sept. 1. I left the demo wanting a little more time to explore the sandbox to get a feel of how vast the open world actually is. However, if you’re a fan of Avalanche Studio’s work or Mad Max: Fury Road it’ll likely pique your interest.
