The BoX: Trailer & Game review

The BoX is a simple 2D Platformer; Nobody can say it redefines the genre. Nobody can say it will change the way we think of games. However, it is beautiful, fast paced, and simultaneously easy and challenging. In other words, it is everything a platformer should aspire to be. The mechanics of the game begin simply. You roll left, or you roll right. You roll over hills, you jump over gaps. Slowly but surely more mechanics are implemented. Bounce pads, teleport pads, and platforms that invert gravity are all introduced to the player level by level, along with turrets, lasers, lava, and various powerups. You’re progress through the level is ranked E to S. These elements are in no way unique – in fact they are very common. What makes The BoX such a spectacular game isn’t its ingenuity, but its execution. All of these elements are used in ways that are at the same time familiar and new. There are levels where falling up is more of a danger than falling down. There are levels where you bounce from point to point, roll through loops, or climb your way through a winding maze. The motion is physics based, which means your little sphere cannot turn on a dime, but also that every second you are moving a little faster, resulting in the kind of fast paced gameplay that made Sonic the Hedgehog popular. Include power-ups that are dynamic and directly affect how you move throughout the level, and you have a game that taps into the potential of the platformer genre and does everything right. watch the trailer below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxbGoyrFU5U originally posted at http://www.thegamerscene.com/pc/review-the-box/
